Over the past few years, the Mykolaiv oblast has earned the dubious distinction of the region where there are no roads. So, the most damaged roads are N-11 Dnipro – Kryvyi Rih – Mykolaiv and N-14 Oleksandrivka - Kropyvnytskyi – Mykolaiv, the latter was popularly called the “road of death”. There are numerous videos on the Web, which show in detail the unsatisfactory condition of the road. This situation has developed primarily due to the lack of adequate funding for road construction works, which had to be carried out during the entire life of the road. In addition, the geographical position of the Mykolaiv oblast played an important role in the actually complete destruction of the road, because crops are transported to Mykolaiv from a significant part of the southern and central regions of Ukraine for export abroad by sea. The weight characteristics of the vehicles used for transportation are much larger than the estimated weight parameters, according to which the N-14 road was built in the Soviet period.
In order to bring the strength of the pavement to the modern weight characteristics of freight vehicles, a decision was taken by the Government of Ukraine together with specialized research institutions, as well as with the participation of representatives of leading construction companies, to execute a capital repair of N-14 Kropyvnytskyi – Oleksandrivka – Mykolaiv using hard surface, i.e. cement concrete pavement.
The project for the capital repair of N-14 road sections provides for the arrangement of new pavement with the following design:
- — a drainage layer of stone screening dust, 15 cm thick;
- — a base layer of crushed stone and sand mixture reinforced with cement of grade M60, 16 cm thick;
- — an upper layer of cement concrete of the compressive strength grade B30 and the bending tensile strength Вtb 4.0, 26 cm thick.
After the capital repair, the road will be able to properly maintain heavy freight. Our company, within the capital repair of the road sections above, carries out work on the arrangement of the base layer of crushed stone and sand mixture reinforced with cement, as well as works on the arrangement of the upper layer of cement concrete.
The status of the facility as of September 2019 – on sections at km 162+338 – km 165+000, km 172+000 – km 175+000 – work on the arrangement of the drainage layer of the stone screening dust, 0.15 m thick and a base layer of crushed stone and sand mixture reinforced with cement of grade M60, 16 cm thick is completed; on the section km 161+204 - km 162+338 a drainage layer and a base layer were made of crushed stone and sand mixture reinforced with cement of grade M60 over the entire length of the section on the left side, except for the bridge construction section, work on the construction of the subbase on the right lane is carried out. On the section at km 162+338 - km 165+000 preparatory work is executed before the arrangement of the upper layer of cement concrete.
19.09.2019 the arrangement of the upper layer of cement concrete was started on the section km 162+338 - km 165+000;
26.09.2019 the arrangement of the upper layer of cement concrete was started on the section km 161+204 - km 162+338;
The status of the facility as of November 2019
- — on the section km.161+204 - km.162+338 arrengement of the upper layer of cement concrete were completed together with contraction joints. Installation of road kerbs, arragement of pedestrian routes base and pavement, arragement of driveway to the private residences, arragement of road side ditch are going on;
- — on the section km.162+338 - km.165+000 arrengement of the upper layer of cement concrete were completed. Contraction joints arragement in concrete pavement is going on;
- — нon the section km.172+000 - km.175+000 the arrangement of the upper layer of cement concrete is going on with Wirtgen pavers.
The status of the facility as of end of 2019
Due to the hard work of all of the structural units of our company, the main task for 2019 was fulfilled, namely to ensure the passage on the sections of capital repairs on the newly repaired road surface. The result of the work of our team was the possibility for traffic to move on through all of three sections of the road.
The status of the facility as of March 2020
Due to favourable weather conditions capital repair works on state road N-14 were resumped in february 2020. Arrangemet of the exits from main road begins. They will have concrete pavemnt, as soon as main road. Also contaction joints arragements works begin.
The status of the facility as of September 2020
Construction work is 100% completed. Installation of road signs, drawing of a road marking is executed. Traffic on sections is opened.
All sections of roads have been fully commissioned and certified.
